Mosab Hassan Yousef, 30, the son of one of Hamas’ founding members, Sheikh Hassan Yousef, left Islam in an Israeli prison, was lead into Christianity by Jesus’ words to love one’s enemies, and has now decided to leave his family in Ramallah, Palestine, and live in California, United States of America, with other evangelical Christians.
As a teenager Mosab climbed up Hamas’ organizational structure to become the leader of the Islamic Youth Movement which recruited young men to fight Israeli tanks and troops in a provocative manner in the streets and to celebrate suicide bombings.
The US government calls Hamas a terror organization. Hamas formed in the late 1980’s as an outgrowth of the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Mosab said he realized the terrorist nature of Hamas and radical Islam during time spent in an Israeli prison where he witnessed Hamas leaders torturing other Hamas members. One day a man gave Mosab a Bible. The words of Jesus to love one’s enemies so pierced his heart that eventually Mosab renounced his Muslim faith and converted to Christianity.
Mosab started his life with hatred but has now found hope. No person has so much hatred in their heart that the love of God cannot overcome the hopelessness and spiritual death hate produces. Proverbs 10:12 (Amp) says, “Hatred stirs up contentions, but love covers all transgressions.”
